Song Splitter

Split a song into vocals, drums, bass, guitar and more with an AI model that runs on your own computer.

Download MR Audio for your computer

The Song Splitter runs on your own computer, so your music never leaves it and it works without internet. The download also includes the Voice Recorder and Instrument Recorder.

About 400 MB. The AI models are included, so nothing else is downloaded when you first use it.

Which Mac do I have?

Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner, then About This Mac. If it says Chip followed by Apple M1, M2 or similar, choose Apple silicon. If it says Processor followed by Intel, choose Intel.

Installing on a Mac
  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag MR Audio into the Applications folder.
  2. The first time, right-click (or Control-click) MR Audio and choose Open, then click Open again. This is needed once because the app is not yet signed by Apple.
  3. If you see a microphone request, choose Allow so the recorders can hear you.
Installing on Windows
  1. Right-click the downloaded zip file, choose Extract All, and open the extracted folder.
  2. Double-click MR Audio.exe. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.

Split a song into vocals, drums, bass and more

Song Splitter uses Demucs, an open-source AI model, to separate a finished song into individual stems: vocals, drums, bass and other instruments, or a six-stem mode that also isolates guitar and piano. Each stem opens as its own track that you can solo, mute, mix, edit and export.

What it is good for

  • Practising along with a song with the guitar or bass removed
  • Making backing tracks and karaoke versions by taking the vocals out
  • Isolating vocals or drums for remixes, study or transcription
  • Teaching: play each part of a song on its own in the classroom

Private and offline

The AI runs on your own computer, so your music is never uploaded and it works without an internet connection. A full-length song takes a few minutes to process on a typical computer, and it uses your processor rather than needing a graphics card. 8 GB of memory or more is recommended.

Want to record something first? Try the Voice Recorder or the Instrument Recorder, both free in your browser.
